TAIPING: The birth of two animals has brought joy to the Zoo Taiping and Night Safari.

The new additions, a male elephant calf and an African spoonbill chick, were born on Dec 30 last year.

Taiping Municipal Council president Datuk Abd Rahim Md Ariff said the zoo now has nine elephants after the birth of the calf.

The last calf born in the zoo was in 2011, he said.

“With the new births, the zoo has achieved progress in ensuring the sustainability of wildlife populations,” he said.

Abd Rahim added that the zoo had recorded 34 births last year.
